Opening for a sold out crowd...

I was reflecting on the show I did at the Music Box earlier this year, opening for Caloncho, Mexican Folk/Reggae/pop artist and Latin Grammy© nominee, and his sold out crowd. I was filled with both excitement and a bundle of nerves all wrapped up in one little knot in my stomach! Caloncho’s show at the Music Box was one for the books and I took away a lot from that incredible experience. Also, it was a Spanish speaking crowd so I went in knowing I would be speaking to them in Spanish. Even though I am fluent, it was a bit nerve wracking to make sure I expressed what I wanted to express in another tongue. What a night!

Notable highs: the crowd was warm, receptive and even sang along to one of the songs I sang; I commanded the entire room filled with 700 people, all by myself; I sold some merch and fans came up to me after the show to express their joy from my set.

Now for the things I get to work on for next time… the graphics for the video behind me at the Music Box! I was so disappointed that i had a stark white image and my huge name behind me, instead of a creative little video that was looping with some cool artwork. That’s something I definitely want to get sourced out, so I don’t have to worry about it for a show. My song choices should be an ongoing process throughout the year, so when the time comes to open for an artist, I am prepared and FEEL CONFIDENT about my material. I did prepare for a few weeks for this show, but my. nerves still got the best of me and I made some mistakes I could have avoided, had I really been with my songs a little longer.
